Riffable is free

There is no paid plan, no credits and no cost to take part, write, publish or download. We also don't charge communities and groups that bring people to write together.

Every riff belongs to whoever wrote it

You keep the authorship and the rights to every passage (“riff”) you write. Nothing transfers your work to Riffable or to anyone else.

Because the story is collective, by contributing you allow the other authors to continue and branch your passage, and whoever organizes the work to include it when publishing the book — always with your credit.

Everyone is credited

• In the story, the author's name appears next to every riff.
• In the published book and in the EPUB file, every passage carries the name of who wrote it, and the “Authors of this work” page shows each person's share in words.
• Credit doesn't depend on how much you wrote: one riff is enough.

Reading is open; the file belongs to the authors

Anyone can read a published book on the site. The EPUB file can be downloaded by whoever organized the work and by any author with a riff in the published edition.

What Riffable does — and doesn't do — with the work

Does: hosts and displays the work on the platform, and may promote it — title, cover, short excerpts and the authors' names — on Riffable's pages, on social media and in promotional material, always with credit.

Doesn't: doesn't sell the work, doesn't license it to third parties, doesn't publish it outside the platform and doesn't receive royalties from it.

Name and likeness: we only use the username and the avatar you chose for your public profile. We don't use your personal image. If you'd rather not appear in any promotion, write to contact@getriffable.com and we'll take it down.

Publishing elsewhere and making money

Whoever organizes the work can take the book to external stores (Amazon KDP, Apple Books, Google Play…) and to print, keeping the credits. How to share any earnings is an agreement among the authors: Riffable doesn't broker it, takes no commission and has no part in it.

No AI writes the story

All the prose is by people. AI only helps, when an author asks: translating the reading into other languages, drafting a character or world sheet, and generating a cover or a portrait. Published text is always human.

After publishing

The story stays alive: new riffs, new chapters and new editions of the book are possible at any time. Each published book is a frozen snapshot of that edition.

You can ask for your contribution to be left out of future editions; editions already published stay as they are. If you delete your account, your riffs remain in the story as anonymous, and editions already published keep the credit.
